SD Laser R7 welding robot station on a rail
- Super fast, automatic welding without the need for robot arm programming!
- Simple process: Scan workpiece, select seams, start welding.
- In most cases, no 3D drawing of the workpiece is required and no prior robot programming is required.
- Simple, fast installation, ready to use.
The SD Laser R7 is an industrial, rail-mounted robot welding workstation with two industrial scanners for fast, stable and predictable welding of large steel structures. The strength of our system is the combination of long workpiece handling, workpiece scanning, visual seam recognition, automatic path correction and solutions supporting continuous operational reliability. The fully enclosed rail system, water-cooled welding gun, automatic slag cleaning and intelligent control software together create a production environment where productivity, welding quality and repeatability are simultaneously improved.
Designed for welding large steel structures
The SD Laser R7 is a linear rail robot welding workstation that is ideal for large and repetitive steel structure tasks. The ground-mounted rail system as the X-axis, with a range of 10,000 mm, allows the equipment to work on larger structures in a stable, predictable and continuous manner. This is especially beneficial for steel beams and other larger metal parts, where a fixed robot arm cell is not enough. The linear rail system is fully enclosed, adequately protected from dust, sparks or melt.
Workpiece scanning
One of the great advantages of our robot welder is that it recognizes the workpiece with 3D vision. It does not just repeat a pre-trained trajectory, but scans the actual position and geometry of the part, from which it creates a 3D point cloud and then plans a trajectory. After that a separate sensor at the welding head continuously refines the seam tracking during welding.
Sensor-based seam tracking in real time
One of the most powerful elements of the system is the visual seam sensor. It performs both remote coarse positioning and close fine correction. It can handle larger workpiece deviations and then refine the actual welding position. The sensor is capable of fast coarse positioning at a speed of 600 mm/s at a distance of 750–1800 mm, while it performs fine positioning and deviation correction between 550–750 mm, even with assembly deviations of ±25 mm. Good seam tracking is critical because it significantly reduces manual readjustment time and helps maintain more consistent seam quality.
Water-cooled welding head with automatic nozzle cleaning for continuous production
The R7 robot welder’s water-cooled welding head helps reduce heat load, supports continuous operation, and can increase the gun’s service life by 2-3 times. The system automatically cleans the nozzle, reducing manual intervention, shortening downtime, and increasing efficiency per machine by up to 25%, while increasing nozzle service life by up to 30%. This is not only a maintenance benefit, but also a production benefit: less downtime, fewer replacements of consumables, and more consistent welding quality!
Intelligent Control
The R7 is more than just robot welder, it is a complete intelligent welding system. The CypWeld software supports TCP calibration, hand-eye calibration, workpiece initialization, seam extraction, seam editing, mass seam generation, path planning, simulation, seam localization, multi-layer and multi-row welding, as well as real-time visualization and processing control, among others. The user interface displays the robot and external axes movements in real time, and the software also supports path planning, continuation and remapping after rapid recalibration. In practice, this means faster changeover, more transparent programming and less error.
Stable mechanics prepared for industrial environments
The durability of the system is not only provided by the robot arm, but also by the entire mechanical platform. The closed rail track with dense fastening screws, multi-slide stabilization and tidy internal cabling together serve to reduce the impact of splashes, dust, metal chips and other operating influences on critical components, while ensuring the system remains stable in the long term.
Rapid installation and production setup
The system can be installed and put into production faster than more traditional robot cell solutions. With two of our colleagues from Signdepot and a forklift installation and commissioning can be completed within a day. This, combined with fast workpiece scanning and automatic seam tracking, greatly simplifies the learning and use of the equipment compared to traditional industrial robot arms that require robot programming expertise.
